I read jnside the title more than the blurb as I selected it. Interesting look inside Rikers Island. With that in mind, this book was published a while ago and Jennifet would think that some these problems have been delt with or added tobut I always enjoy reading of past problems and seeing how far we have come.

It is a powerful book with a deep jnnifer message that we aren’t doing enough to treat inmates and are spending huge amounts of money on failed polices. I had to read for school, but I couldn’t put it down. Wynn uses firsthand narratives of prisoners she’s worked with to illustrate the Kafka-esque difficulties convicts face on the road to rehabilitation. Two Staten Island ferries, converted into floating detention centers, are docked off the northern tip of the island and together hold over prisoners.
Much of insied book revolves around the inmates that participate in a program called Fresh Start. As if on the set of a science-fiction movie, you then enter a bright red cylindrical booth.
A few made successful adjustments to life outside, but most did not escape the cycle of drugs, crime, and incarceration. Life is full of surprises.
